Harry Larsen comes from a family of boat builders, so it is natural for him, following his retirement from Boeing, to build a special boat. About 2000 he fitted hydrofoils to a 24' Bayliner. That was the easy part, he says. Special talent was required to adapt a laptop computer as an autopilot for roll control. Mechanical and hydraulic devices control pitch and height. This is low altitude aviation, and the boat is a pleasure to fly.

That's awesome. Are there plans to install the system on faster boats? I don't seem to be able to find vids here of powerboat racing with foils.

Up to 3 ' waves no pounding, no slowing. For higher waves the bow cuts through the wave without pounding but some slowing.

I wonder how it will perform in rought waters

The second i saw this video first thing i thought it would help on was the gas mileage, seems others thought that too, i bet if youd change the gearing(which im sure is somewhat of a biach) to having like say an extra gear, since im sure now the boat uses much less power to hold its speed once your on plane you could then cut mpg drasticly , i dont even know if boats have gears, ,im sure some do, but they all should,i always loved those midsize bayliners, anyways i love what you did, awsome job

Impressive. How much more speed does he get after installing hyrdofoils?
